BSM
Bible Study Methods Class
Welcome!
The Connected Bible Study Method (BSM) focuses on studying Scripture with the goal of building relationship with Jesus Christ. While there are several reasons the Bible gives to study, studying with the goal of strengthening your relationship with Christ brings benefits that the other reasons do not. The other motivations to study will lead you to know more about God, but studying for relationship will lead you to know God more. It's good to know about God, but it's better to know God, and the goal of the Connected BSM is to show you how to achieve this.
John 15 gives at least four benefits to developing a relationship with Christ, and those benefits are discussed in chapter one of Connected. My prayer for every student who takes this course is that you will, by the end of the semester, know Christ more intimately than you ever have, and that you will experience the benefits listed in John 15 at a deeper level than you have ever known.
My additional prayer is that you will understand this method well enough to teach this process to others with the goal of strengthening their bond with Jesus Christ. This instruction is especially good for new Christians. As we bring new Christians into the Kingdom of God, what better gift can we give them than to show them how to become intimate with their Savior?
During this semester, I am your servant. Please ensure you get everything from this course that you can. If I can help you, I will. You will have my contact info, so please know that you are free to discuss your struggles and your successes with me.
It is important to understand that this is a Bible study methods course, not a Bible study. We are here to learn how to study. The accuracy of some of the information we glean from Scripture might be questionable at times, but the method will eventually correct issues with accuracy. Our focus will be on how we got the information, not whether we got the right information. Keep this in mind as we progress; otherwise it will be easy to get bogged down into arguments about doctrine, etc.
So let's get started! I hope you are as excited about learning this material as I am about teaching it to you!
Connected and The Connected Workbook will be the required texts for this class. Connected can be ordered from numerous online bookstores, but The Connected Workbook is only available online at amazon.com. Both books are available at the OCBF Bookstore.
